Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine diagnoses physiological and pathological conditions of the body using gamma or beta rays in radioactive nuclides as well as treating disorders with radiation sources. It has four major fields; 1) Nuclear medicine imaging diagnosis, which conducts imaging and active examinations with radioactive isotopes, 2) Nuclear medicine examinations using radioimmunoassay (RIA, IRMA), 3) treatment using radioactive isotopes, and 4) Nuclear medicine-related basic research studying and developing radioactive medicine related to nuclear medicine and devices (nuclear physics, radio-pharmacology, radiobiology and computer). Dong-a University Medical Center operates a Thyroid Clinic for treatment. Major nuclear medical devices include SPECT, PET, gamma counter, and more. Major fields of clinical nuclear medicine are cardiac nuclear medicine, nuclear neurology, cardiac nuclear medicine and the musculoskeletal system, musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, digestive system, kidney-urologic system, infections, peripheral vascular system, marrow-immune system in regular nuclear medicine, and so on.
